The nature

Mønsted Kalkgruber, it is not only the bats that are protected, but also the surrounding nature which is something very special, so remember to experience nature up close by taking our nature trail.

When you visit us, you will be entering one of Denmark's total of 287 Natura 2000 areas. Natura 2000 aims to preserve and protect various nature types, wild animal and plant species across the European Union.

At the limestone pits, we must take care of the habitat, the bats, and other endangered species. On the nature trail, which is approximately 1 km long, you can see the large sinkholes from above, experience the protected limestone grassland, see the lake in the old open limestone quarry, walk on the waste mountain of flint, and learn more about the critically endangered and very rare plant, Kratsnerren, that grows in the area.
